The Basics of Poker

Poker

Generally, poker games require a table with a large number of seats. There are several different types of Poker, each of which requires a different set of rules.

In Poker, each player has five cards. The best hand wins the pot. Ties are broken by a high card. Unless there are wild cards, a straight flush is the best natural hand. A flush is five cards of the same suit in any order. A full house is made up of three aces and two sixes.

During a betting round, each player can choose to bet, raise, or fold. When a player raises, he adds more chips to the pot. When a player folds, he discards his hand.

A straight is made up of five cards in a single sequence. A straight can be high or low. A straight-flush is a straight that contains an ace. A straight flush is called a Royal Flush.

A straight is not a straight flush if a player has a low ace. If a player has a low ace and has a pair of kings, the ace is considered a tie. If there are a tie, the highest unmatched fifth card will win.

The ante is the initial bet. It is usually a small bet, such as $1 or $5. Depending on the game, the ante may be a fixed amount or a preset amount. The ante is typically the minimum bet, although it varies from game to game.
